All will remain 3.0.0 compatible until 3.0.4 comes out, at which time
we only support 3.0.2 and 3.0.4 (and trunk) at the next release.

Maintaining more compiler versions tends to get to you into ifdef hell
rather quickly.

Having support for codepage aware strings by default justifies going
from 1.4.x to 1.6.x IMO.
