Ok, I'm adding a paragraph in the tutorial about this.

It doesn't by default. You have to add -c0 to get the no-optimize behavior.

You are right. It is certainly possible a complex profile that behaves linear 
in most of its gamut but curved in dark shadows. The only way would be to 
examine all 65535x65535x65535 combinations.
