Well I'm not too surprised at Oracle's decision on VirtualIron. It's just another Xen branch with some interesting features and limitations. The real differentiator for it is the management piece. It's more likely that we'll see Oracle shift their Xen implementation to running on OpenSolaris. As for the management piece, who knows.. they have the Oracle, VirtualIron, and Sun xVM OpsCenter options on the table.
