Hi,

What version of LDM did you install and on what OS revision?

Subject: [ldoms-discuss] ldmd not running and cannot reconfigure LDom because
ldm isn't running

Hello,

I'm trying to setup LDoms for the very first time (on a T1000) and after
rebooting at the end of the configuration (which both the online training and
the LDOM guide said to do) I get a warning that the ldmd will not run. The
warnings shown on the console (at the end of the boot process) are:

os-io WARNING: promif_ds_init: can't find ds_cap_init
Hostname: solaris0

Apr 4 18:08:56 svc.startd[7]: svc:/ldoms/ldmd:default: Method
"/opt/SUNWldm/bin/ldmd_start" failed with exit status 1.
Apr 4 18:08:58 svc.startd[7]: svc:/ldoms/ldmd:default: Method
"/opt/SUNWldm/bin/ldmd_start" failed with exit status 1.

solaris0 console login: Apr 4 18:09:00 svc.startd[7]: svc:/ldoms/ldmd:default:
Method "/opt/SUNWldm/bin/ldmd_start" failed with exit status 1.
Apr 4 18:09:00 svc.startd[7]: ldoms/ldmd:default failed: transitioned to
maintenance (see 'svcs -xv' for details)

I looked in the logs and see this error:

fatal error: No such file or directory: Unable to open VLDC instance
/devices/virtual-devices at 100/channel-devices at 200/virtual-channel at
0:hvctl for contacting hypervisor

I assume I did not configure something correctly, and want to try
reconfiguring, but I'm completely unable to change or even view any of the
config because everythign seems to depend on ldmd running. For example:

root at solaris0 # ldm list-services primary
Failed to connect to logical domain manager: Connection refused
root at solaris0 # ldm list-config
Failed to connect to logical domain manager: Connection refused

I have tried multiple times to reboot and set the bootmode to different
settings, however, it behaves the same no matter what config I boot into. I
have tried normal (no selection), factory-default and inital, and in all of
them I am unable to communicate with the ldmd.

Here are the steps I have followed, for example, to try to boot into
factory-default:

root at solaris0 # shutdown -y -g 0 -i 0

Shutdown started. Mon Apr 7 15:24:19 CDT 2008

Changing to init state 0 - please wait

sc> poweroff

ssh is disconnected at this point so I log back in to the sc

Here are some of my settings:

sc> showhost
Sun-Fire-T1000 System Firmware 6.6.1 2008/02/11 15:54

Host flash versions:
   OBP 4.28.1 2008/02/11 13:04
   Hypervisor 1.6.1 2008/02/11 12:15
   POST 4.28.1 2008/02/11 13:29

sc> showplatform
SUNW,Sun-Fire-T1000
Chassis Serial Number: 0619NNE0R5

Domain Status
------ ------
S0 Running

sc> showkeyswitch

Keyswitch is in the NORMAL position.

Right before I rebooted last, this was the status of my services (unfortunately
I did not notice that the VDLC was missing):

root at solaris0 # ldm ls-services primary

How can I get back into configuration mode?

Thanks,

    JW
