Glen You dont say to what or by what method you are going to update your primary.
If you use live upgrade then all you need to do is reboot the primary on completion of the upgrade to the new build environment, you do not need to take the other domains out, BUT they will experience a loss of all I/O activity for the duration that the primary domain is out, but this will be restored once the primary is back up and running again. Any other method of upgrading the primary MAY provide a longer period of outage for the other domains.
