Hi, Memory and CPUs are still partitioned into LDoms and not shared. You can dynamically add and remove them without rebooting a guest LDoms if you are on OVM for SPARC 2.0 and S10u9 or higher.
Using ZFS has the back-end for the disks does perform well since atleast 1.0.3 from my testing. I do recommend the use of ZFS volumes over sparse files. For heavier I/O workloads and mobility(Live Migration and Solaris Cluster), I would recommend the use of dedicated SAN or iSCSI LUNs. In that case, you can either create dedicated ZFS pools for each guest or just assign the LUNs to the guest and use ZFS within the guest to manage the storage. Key thing to keep in mind is the size of the ZFS ARC and to restrict it in size (1GB seems to work well). This is especially true if you run ZFS in your control or service domain to manage the storage backends for your LDoms. I hope that helps out. Appreciate it if anyone can comment on the following: * Is it now possible to share memory and CPU across LDOMs or do you still need to discretely define which resources are available only to given LDOMs? * With early releases, we had significant performance degradation with read/write performance overhead using LDOM disks presented via ZFS partitions; Thus, in order to have performance acceptable, we had to dedicate a disk per LDOM. Have there been any improvements in this area? Much appreciated, Chris...
