There is. Comparing a wireless bridge to an AP is kind of like comparing
MS-DOS to Linux.

It is the extra functionality of an AP that is important for the WISP
market. There are Linux and BSD folks involved in the field. If they could
use wireless bridges in place of expensive APs they would. Yet they are
using APs that cost anywhere from $600 to $1200. And even at that they are
not happy with the wireless suppliers as the suppliers are not building
the equipment the WISPs really want.

A true Linux based AP would be hot and dominate the field.
