For anyone who is interested, we just finished up the latest iteration of the "gatping" utility, a small program that rapid-fire pings a /24 network range, then list all the hosts that show up in the pinging host's arp table. It's a quick way of determining what machines are actually connected to a LAN at any moment.
The program is still rough, which is why it has a low version number and the ALPHA label. It is also, by design, limited in scope -- it does just one thing, but it does that very fast, its size is small, and it needs only libc6. (People wanting a more general-purpose replacement for standard ping might want to consider fping or arping instead.) A complete tarfile of gatping -- binary (against glibc-2.1.x), source, License, Makefile, and notes -- can be picked up at URL ftp://ftp.echogent.com/gatping/gatping_0.3f.tgz -- ------------------------------------"Never tell me the odds!"--- Ray Olszewski -- Han Solo Palo Alto, CA [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________ Leaf-devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-devel
