The patches I was referring to are patches I submitted to busybox...one to support extended regular-expressions in egrep (egrep was just an alias for grep), and some significant fixes to the hostname command (including support for comment lines in the hostname file).
Other than these changes (all of which are included in the latest stable busybox), I didn't make any other changes.
