Greetings, All:
After brief discussions with Mike Noyes, I have decided to join the
LEAF development group. He has recommended that I introduce
myself, so here goes...
My name is Rich Lohman, and I am a Network Engineer for a county
government in Indiana. I've been doing the computer thing since about
1988, and networking since about 1995. Job requirements dictate that I
remain familiar with Windows and NetWare environments, however my
true passion is in the Linux area. I got my first linux distribution around
1995

Go Slackware!

But really began to work with it seriously in 1999. Since then, I have
converted my primary desktop at home to Linux, and retain the
Windows partition for the odd apps that I still use, but haven't had time
to try out in Wine.
My relationship to the LEAF project began when I needed a firewall
package to replace the $10,000 proprietary package I bought for my
organization back when I didn't know anything about TCP/IP or
firewalling. I ran across Materhorn, eventually settling into Charles
Steinkuehler's Eigerstein and now Dachstein releases. I, like many,
came to LEAF after the LRP/McVeigh/political statement thing.
I would not consider myself a Linux "guru" (actually, quite far from it
IMHO), but I am working on my LPI Level 1 Certification, and
continuing to move more computing activities toward Linux as time
permits. One skill that I think I do posess, however, is the ability to
document things. As such, I wrote a small step-by-step manual
(cookbook?) for creating a firewall out of Eigerstein, and have begun
work on a similar document for Dachstein. This will likely be the
strongest area of contribution that I can make, and I do so happily.
So there is my introduction. I look forward to playing a role, however
small, in moving Linux further into the mainstream, and working with
the folks here.
Regards,
Rich Lohman
