No doubt that is the case, and my not seeing that was the result of the
underlying problem (whatever it might have been) getting partially fixed
between the time Mike did his tests and the time I tried.
Since Dave is (apparently) his own registrar, there is an
all-his-eggs-in-one-basket aspect to his setup that means that when
anything fails, everything fails. Even now, only his first-listed
nameserver -- the host that is also the IP address for www.linuxrouter.org
and everything else I tried to resolve -- is responding to pings. To wit:

Even when working, this setup is fragile -- for example, one of these same
hosts is his backup MX server for linuxrouter.org and psychosis.com.
