You've been right; the patches applied, the config changed (I had to set CONFIG_PLATFORM_LINUX=y, otherwise a few applets has been lost, anyway the binary is a little bit smaller than before) - and I was able to boot into a kernel 2.6.35.10 and busybox 1.18.2 iso image with qemu.
