I had the same idea, but refused even to test 3.18 because of three reasons.

1) it takes some time (a few weeks) to adjust the main images to a new kernel
and to review the kernel settings

2) although support for unusual tarballs like the raspberry pi has been
improved I expect it takes somewhat longer to get a working tarball again

3) I expect a major change in my infrastructure next week and expect breakages
which will take a while to resolve and therefor time working on real new stuff
will be limited at least

Summarizing this, I epxect 5.2 would be moved a few months into the future,
while 5.2 with 3.14 can be considered stable IMHO.

My proposal is to release a rc-candidate RSN, and to start working on a 3.18
in the next branch, which will then be 5.3. The lifetime for 5.2 could be
really short then.

Another idea is to update uClibc as well
see:

 http://www.uclibc-ng.org/trac/wiki

I've tried to build a toolchain, but it fails not seeing the linux-headers.
I'm not shure, what causes the issue, because they seems to be at expected
place. Maybe you can take an eye on it?
