I may have spoken too soon (no surprise there!).  When
I realized that I had an Ethernet card here in another
notebook PC, I snatched it and tried it out with this
LRP setup.  Everything works except for the card
itself.  All the base PCMCIA modules work okay, but
when cardmgr is run and tries to dynamically insmod
the proper module for the card, it gets several
unresolved symbol errors.

It appears that it's best if the PCMCIA stuff is
compiled with the SAME kernel (and options) that it
will run with, not just the same version.  Now I'm
kind of stuck unless I break down and install slink.
