Ah hah! I knew I'd seen that before! Thanks for re-finding it for me. ;)

According to devices.txt in 2.4.2, MTD devices are char major 90.

The M-Systems driver, however, does put it at 100; this does jive
with one of my theories as to why a 2.4.2 kernel won't boot on
my DoC box. The existing /dev entries are for the M-Systems driver
that I patched into 2.2 kernels.

In case you haven't figured it out, I'm trying to use a 2.4.2
kernel on my DoC/PCMCIA box to see if it works better with the
pcmcia hardware...:)
