Quick emphasis to your point number 4: to get passive-mode
FTP working, you need to coordinate which ports your FTP
server will propose to a client, and which ports your
firewall will forward along to the server. This is addition
to configuring the FTP server to use your firewall's external
IP in those PORT commands. I've heard that newer versions of
ip_masq_ftp.o are actually smart enough to do this IP address
translation on the fly...but I've not seen it myself. YMMV.
Despite the incremental reading...have a look too
at the README file of the echowall.lrp package. It sorta
spells this process out as well.
