ok, i was able to get to the console, and to lrcfg. i went through and set up my ethernet cards, which seem to be recognized. then went to set network setting and entered my static ip and dns information. but none of this seems to be registering, when i try to ping any kind of ip i get at "network is unreachable." i have double checked all of the setting in the network.conf, but there're a lot of options in there that i don't understand, so i just left those settings on the default. so can anyone give me some advise on what i should be checking for?
my system is a P166 with two 3com 3c905b ethernet cards. i know that the ethernet cards are being detected because the startup screen eth0 and eth1 and lists the 3com model next to that. however on the same screen it shows: "loopback interface: lo" "starting interface: eval: 1: error: bad substitution" i have no idea what that means. thanks anthony > > hey, i installed dachstein to a floppy, booted it, and it locked up giving > > the following message: "warning: unable to open an intial console." i > don't > > know too much about linux or unix, so i have no idea what happened. if > you > > know how to fix this, or need some more info, please contact me. > > I've seen this problem before, but normally only when playing with root.lrp, > or using kernels compiled without the proper LRP patches.
