The problem was that the file type on the web server was not correct and the famous netscape "download it as ascii" problem kicked in. By going to the mirror server http://www.nisi.ab.ca/lrp , where the files were handled as binaries, the downloads worked. Although the file name has the upx extension, it does not need to be decompressed. It is just renamed "linux" and we rock and roll!
