One indispensable resource for error messages is Google. :)

It looks like you are using PPPoE? This is not uncommon... but it is
always good to describe your configuration as it is supposed to work.

There is an option in the /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider that specifies MTU
(maximum transmission unit; that is, packet size).  I think ppp should
work okay even after spitting out this message, but you can change the
specified value to 1492 or lower.
