What is your real problem?

Generally, on a LEAF firewall, if wtmp grows by mB per day, then you
have a problem; and, the real problem is not wtmp.

imho, correct the problem that is causing wtmp flooding and the reason
for your post goes away.  We have eight dcd's floating about and
/etc/lrp.conf and savelog handle our wtmp's quite satisfactory and for
years . . .
