I think you want to build a new initrd.lrp when you say backing up. Following is what I do to modify the initrd. - Rename the initrd.lrp to initrd.gz - Gunzip the inirtd.gz - Mount the initrd through loopback - Make the changes to the mounted initrd filesystem - Umount the initrd filesystem - Gzip it and change the name to initrd.lrp Bao -- Best Regards.
