In both cases, I was able to add a Debian-based router to NAT a LAN behind *one* of the addresses with no trouble. Using 1 router to firewall all 5 addresses will require you to run proxy arp on the router (or persuade SBC to modify its routing tables, but I doubt they will do that for you). Assuming Bering handles proxy arp smoothly, everything else should be no problem at all.
Here, the DSL "modem" SBC provided was always Ethernet based (though I once had to insist on this, back when they tried to push USB-based modems for a brief time), but you do want to make sure of that.

Hi, A friend of mine in Chicago would like to subscribe to SBC Yahoo DSL package, which gives him 5 static IP, for about $70 a month. From their Web site regarding the equipment (http://www.sbcdslstore.com/default.asp?refDomain=www05), they say that they are selling some additional, stand-alone network components and accessories to enhance the DSL connection. And they also say that the SBC DSL Internet access service includes basic equipment needed to get started. Also according to the site, Linux is compatible but not supported. If anyone uses SBC Yahoo can let me know if he has to buy any other equipment for the 5 static IP package or can I just help him to use Bering directly with the basic equipment included in the package?
