Thanks for the pointer.  I went and read the Prism2/HostAp documentation you
refered to.  It seems to describe two scenarios:

1. Setting up a leaf as an Access Point
2. Setting up two leafs (leaves?) as a Wireless Distribution System (a
wireless link between two wired segments)

Both of these scenarios is close to, but not quite, what I was trying to do. 
I'm really trying to accomplish the linux equivalent of the Linksys WET11.  A
device that will hook a wired segment to a wireless network via another access
point.

The other problem is that all of my cards are Cisco Aironet cards, which
apparently don't support the hostap mode described as being part of the Prism
chipset.  Although I have read some info that hostap is present in cisco
aironet cards. (http://hostap.epitest.fi/hostap/2002-07/1158.html)

Is what i'm trying to do impossible without HostAP?
