In that case, what says:

  cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

?  If it's a "1",

  echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

should re-enable replies to echo requests (pings) on the firewall.
