Hello All, Short Version: Can someone make a Distributed.net module for Dachstein?
Long Version: A long time ago, I submitted the below to the LRP list. Which was basically a request for a distributed.net module to add into LRP. I eventually managed to cobble together something that worked. (Although I would never publish it as it ran as root, I didnt document exactly what I had done, Im not technical enough to have fixed it to not run as root, nor could I truly build a module myself anyway.) But it did work and everything, dial-up LRP and distributed.net client, fit all on one 1.68M floppy. That floppy stayed stabile from Spring of 2000 to Spring of 2002, when I retired it by changing to Dachstein to connect to cable. The Dachstein floppy is so far seeing the same amount of stability. So, in this long winded fashion, I would like to see if anyone can make a distributed.net module for Dachstein? (and or any of the other flavors of LEAF) As notes on my meager accomplishments from 2000, it took me about 15 hours, most of which was reading man pages, as in past life I was a COBOL mainframe programmer and not a UNIX person. The only thing significant I remember was having to copy a library file off a Debian box, which the distributed.net client told me it needed to run. I will gladly provide whatever help I can (testing, QA, installation and maintenance documentation, through put analysis, etc.), if anyone would be so kind as to make the module. Thank you for your time, Michael Boughner Regular LEAF email address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Im on the digest version, and the email account sending this is one of our corp. test accounts for something else (as mail.sourceforge.net puts it, 550 rejected: Cannot accept mail from <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> because your server doesn't have a postmaster account, and yes we did intentionally shut off postmaster due to the volume of spam on it. A human readable point of contact is on our front pages. And you would think after sending mail to that address for 4 years it might know it's valid.) So, sorry for the idiocy of fname lname. Technical Notes that didnt make it below: - Using the LRP box with the distributed.net floppy increased max download speeds by about 20% over dialing in directly with a Windows95/98, so I dont think there was a performance hit for adding distributed.net to the mix. - The LRP box produced about 25 RC5 blocks per 24 hours. - LEAF/LRP Hardware: 486 DX4 120, 16MB, 1.68 floppy, no HD. > >Message: 8 >Date: Wed, 22 Dec 1999 14:17:16 -0700 >From: "Bryan T.
