Oops, seems I forgot some info. Lshd is definitely running, I can access it internally. The connection fails with a timeout after about 10 seconds. Routing seems to work just fine, since I can access just about anything from the inside to the internet.
I don't have access to the logs at this point though. Will check if anything is in there later tonight.
