Yes, and they all do not recognize the aliased interfaced and do not react properly.
DHCP gives a similar type of error syaing that the interface doesn't respond correctly. As for shorewall, it won't work using the variable but works when you specify the ip address (there is a section on this in the shorewall faq). By chance have you set dhcpd, ppp/pppoe, and shorewall to use the alias'ed interface instead of the stock physical interface?
