Sure, this will avoid many cron.log lines input (one by minute) ;-)
You would only need one cron line.
The main target is to resolve our default route lost, and, in the two cases, it is ok...
I believe that was the main issue of the post on FreeS/Wan

IMHO
Cron is a generig mechanism to start something at regular intervals. It can be used to check sertain system parameters as it is in your case. However, even with small intervals you will always have a certain window of non connectivity (and uncertainty).
If your problem _is_ related to the post from the FreeS/Wan list then I would definitely give it a try.
