Bering uses the iproute tools which don't support the notion of aliased
interfaces. You add addresses after the interface is up using a command
such as:

        /sbin/ip addr add 192.168.16.1/24 dev eth1

IIRC, there is a way to specify this command as part of the iface
definition (the details have been covered on this list dozens of times
but since I don't run Bering, I don't remember the syntax).

In most cases though, Shorewall can create these additional addresses
for you where needed.
