I'm not sure. If serial.o is listed when you run 'lsmod', you should have serial port support.
I'll give it a try tomorrow and report back.Some comments indicate that serial support is built into the normal kernel, but how do I convert the .....zImage.upx file to a disk image or how do I replace just the kernel, if that is an option?
Just copy the ....zImage.upx file to the file 'linux' on your floppy disk (or other boot media). You may have to replace any kernel modules you're using, as well.
