Thanks. The clarifications (not repeated here) make your question much clearer. I cannot be certain of this, but I think you are simply using the wrong module ... you are using a modules.lrp from the CVS tree for Bering 1.14, and you need the modules for 2.1.1. That modules.lrp ... for the newer 2.4.24 kernel ... can be found in CVS at

as "Bering_2.1.1_modules_2.4.24.tar.gz".

Try that and see if it works any better. If not, be sure to do the test of insmod'ing from the command line before you post again ... the result will be more instructive than the uninformative behavior you see when the init script does the loading.
