Within the file /etc/modules of the modules.lrp package I would change line 34 from:
# 8390 based ethernet cards
to
# 8390 based ethernet cards (NOTE: 8390 MUST have crc32 loaded prior)
My rationale is that:
1) AIUI many cards (i.e. the ubiquitous ne* flavours) require 8390 and thus require crc32.
2) this is a new dependency, compared to Bering 1.2 and prior, so it's likely to confound 'upgraders' like myself who don't RTFM from the ground up (like perhaps we should, I admit).
In terms of reducing documentation to minimize size, and doc'n being one of the first to go: I understand and appreciate this point completely. There is much that I would like to see more thoroughly documented but only because of the 2 reasons above am I actually suggesting this one, 43-byte (uncompressed!) increase in size.
Regardless of the outcome of my suggestion thank you for considering it and especially, thanks for LEAF!
BTW, thanks too to everyone who responded about my other issues and suggestions. Better support here than anywhere else I've seen.
