It may help you to decide, what you have to rebuild for your router.

add the patches name to buildtool.cfg, place the patch in the 
build/source/packageName dir and add a patch "command" to 
buildtool.mk, do a buildtool.pl buildclean and restart 
buildtool.pl build packageName
