Later versions of the package B-U uses for ifup/ifdown support an inet
address type of "manual" as in:

interface eth0 inet manual

as opposed to static or dhcp.  This is useful when doing stuff at the link
layer on an interface that you later intend to bridge (e.g. atheros
interfaces).  I've kludged around things for now, but it would be quite cool
if someone has a reason to go update to the newer network tools, if this
could be done.
