As an aside, 'try' is deprecated in 3.2 and will go away in Shorewall 3.4. A
much better approach is:
shorewall save
shorewall restart <a-dir-here>
<fix problems>
shorewall restart <a-dir-here>
...
If the restart fails, the old configuration is restored without having to parse
any configuration files.
