This is what I discovered trying to use the same approach as for 2.x.
And yes! I was late in maintaining my firewall. I forgot it was living
there - never a glitch, never a complaint :-)

Yep. I'm booting from a CD with a small HDD for the backup. An old HP Vectra
which I got for a few euros..

In fact, I did follow the new guide (RTFM first, I know) and that was OK
with modules.lrp and moddb.lrp

I use my Bering box to upgrade itself as this is presently my only Linux
active machine.
For information, I follow this simple protocol:
- download the whole .iso on a Window$ system (don't flame)
- engraved it on a CD or use virtual CD-ROM software (Alcohol 120%)
- then for each .lrp module:
  - transfer from Win to Bering box (scp) => /tmp directory
  - untar the <module name>.lrp into /tmp/<module name>
  - modify any file under the /tmp/<module name> directory
  - re-tar the /tmp/<module-name> content into /tmp/<module-name>.lrp
  - transfer back to Win (scp)
- when done, create CD (with isolinux as the loader)

I've also done two small script (unzippackage, redopackage) to deal with the
.lrp untar-retar

And initrd.lrp did fit in this protocol before, but this is no longer the
case today (unable to retar because no more mkfs.minix command).
