I have installed Bering on a number of 12 port devices by nexcom
http://www.nexcom.com/product/productshow.jsp?iid=15&pid=460.

If you need switching-like behaviour you can bridge a number of ports.
It will be less efficient than your specialized switch though. Instead
of a layer 3 switch you could also use a managed layer 2 switch and
either a vlan trunk or multiple links to your bering box.
