Why not just use multiple floppy images? A typical firewall setup should easily fit on two floppy disks but AFAIK both VMware and LEAF should have no trouble with a third.
Also, I know ESX does not allow IDE disks but isn't the virtual CDROM (image) an ATAPI anyway?
