I did as you told and can now connect to pptpd.

Besides pptp, there was no need to add anything to /etc/modules. I  
tested that it es sufficient to copy the following files from  
modules.tgz on CD root to /lib/modules, and backup modules.

kernel/crypto/sha1_generic.ko
kernel/crypto/arc4.ko
kernel/crypto/ecb.ko
