Not to mention MTBF on sticks is shocking, I have been usb booting and logging 
for a while, I haven't been able to have a stick last more then 6-8 months in a 
live machine before it just goes belly up. If you do want to use usb make sure 
it has ware level support.

Look into using SATA/IDE (ATA) DOM much more reliable medium.

Summary size of ramdists + running image should be less than total RAM - in 
other case you can get OOM.

You can mount storage and log on it, or you can log across the network 
(syslog-ng can do it).
One big trouble with mounted flash - if it will be switched off during write, 
it can be easily bricked, because on each write operation it updates translator 
into it's system area, and if this operation fails - you've got a dead stick.
