Hello Erich,

I don't know how often the upstream DNS settings change, but I use dnsmasq.

In /etc/dnsmasq.conf I have this setting:

# Change this line if you want dns to get its upstream servers from
# somewhere other that /etc/resolv.conf
resolv-file=/etc/ppp/resolv.conf

PPPD writes the configuration to this file. (My upstream connection is PPPoE.)

/etc/resolv.conf points to the local DNS server, i.e. dnsmasq.

I never used dnscache, so I'm not able to tell if dnsmasq is a better
approach, but it works for me and it seems to be designed for this
situation.
