Yeah, unfortunately, out-of-the-box mysql works better on modern hardware than postgresql. The postgresql tuning defaults haven't changed in about 10 years. But... with some simple tweaks it can match mysql performance and give better data integrity. Unfortunately, it would be a huge amount of effort to convert LR to be database-agnostic, so it's probably not going to happen.
