This is the tragedy of free software. A small company has the choice to: 1) Spend thousands or tens of thousands of dollars to pay Command Prompt to develop a payroll module [I'm sure it would cost at least that], or 2) Spend a few hundred dollars on a commercial accounting package that already has payroll built in. The real tragedy is that hundreds of small companies independently choose (2) rather than pooling their resources for (1) and ultimately saving money. And this is why free software developers either need to bite the bullet and develop the missing features at no charge or have a laser-sharp market focus and concentrate on the things they are already good at. Or... figure out how to get companies to pool resources... I don't need payroll support, but I'd be willing to contribute $100 for the feature. Find 200 people like me, and maybe you'd have payroll.
