OUTGOING winger Max Gradel insists he is leaving Leeds United with a "heavy heart", but admits he couldn't turn down the lure of a return to France with Ligue 1 outfit St Etienne. The Ivory Coast international is currently undertaking a medical with Les Verts after they agreed an undisclosed fee with Leeds for his services yesterday evening and the transfer is expected to be finalised shortly. Speculation has raged over the future of Gradel, 23, all summer, with last season's players player of the year and fans' player of the year handing in a transfer request yesterday after being increasingly unsettled over his future. On his move to St Etienne, who beat rival Ligue 1 interest from Sochaux and Nice, Gradel said: "It is with a heavy heart that I have asked to leave Leeds United. "It was a difficult decision for me as Leeds has been a wonderful place to live and play football. However, I have made the decision based on my career development and the opportunity to play at the highest level in France is too big an opportunity to turn down. "I want to thank all the Leeds United fans who loyally follow the team up and down the country as you have made my time at the club very special.
