Misty eyed - I thought it was widespread knowledge that O'Leary didn't have a
clue. He had a good set of youngsters who picked themselves and then when he
had to delve into the transfer market he didn't have a clue. He never knew how
to use substitutions and in general showed he was really lacking. He then went
on the Villa and demonstrated this again by dragging a decent team down to near
relegation.

We shouldn't go near him.

Let's not get too misty eyed about O'Leary.

Yes, he did really well but don't forget that he had a lot of money to spend
and the youngsters that were coming out of the youth team at the time were a
one off compared to the talent we have available now, none of the current
youngsters (Howson included) could hold a light to how good players like
Kewell, Smith and Woodgate were at the time.

Also, people forget that other young players such as Ferdinand, Bowyer and
Bridges were bought with good money, they didn't come up through the ranks.

On top of all that he inherited a rock solid back four from George Graham.

Having said  that, I'd take him back in a heartbeat over Davies, Ince, Warnock
or Bruce!
