I noticed the expression "Did they hell as like" in that WHU fan's piece that Dr Mike posted. It's something I'd always thought was hellus, or hellers like, being an emphasised form of hell. "as like" (akin to 'as if'?) sounds a bit modern for us to have been using in the Revie days, as we did, like.
And another oldie I never understood was what my young ears on the gelderd end heard as "and if we catch you wacking, we'll saw your legs right off". Wacking? Anyone care to educate me 40 years on? Anyway. My tuppeny worth: I haven't a clue who I want, but I know I don't want another twenty signings (loan or otherwise) replacing like with like. I'd like the owners to realise that good feeling emanating from the pitch will achieve whatever goals they have, and to be sensibly advised how to make that occur.
