I am definitely nowhere near approaching let alone climbing on the
McDermott out bandwagon. However, I must admit I am starting to harbour a
few doubts.

I was at the Blackburn game, and there was one aspect of his management
which was embarrassingly amateurish. It was quite obvious that Mowatt, in
stretching to reach the shot which he hit against the bar, had got himself
a cramp. He played on for another 20 mins, not moving quite right, going
down in obvious pain a couple of times, but hanging in there. I have no
problem with that...........I think he is our most creative player, and at
1-2 in the last quarter we certainly needed even an 80% Mowatt. However,
what got me was when he finally went down and, after lengthy treatment,
clearly had to go off. He got to his feet and limped over to the
bench....and it was only at that moment that Brown started putting on his
shirt and shinpads!

Surely someone on the bench should have had the nous to have got a sub
ready and even warming up from the moment the problem became clear in a
situation where we're chasing the game?

On a positive note..............I do think that McD has taken the correct
decision to basically throw the kids in and see if they sink or
float...........and if they float, let's hope that they learn and improve
fast. We have a nucleus of a good half a team who are all 21 or
under............Lees, Mowatt, Byram, Smith, Murphy. Even in a terribly
flat performance like the B/burn game, there were a couple of flashes of
superb interplay between Mowatt & Byram. I do wish they would get Mowatt to
lose a few pounds though.
