I've replied to the list because everybody should be interested in this :)
Clermont Ferrand should be your destination of choice - lots of decent bars
& restaurants (that are nearly all relatively cheap for France) and there is
veterans football in Olby on the Friday night and various concerts and
village balls on the Satdi.
Clermont is less than 2 hours from Lyon (new motorway) and 4 hours from
Paris.
If you're interested I'll sort out the "what's on" for the weekend
