Pretty pre-seasonish and there was a worrying 15 minutes in the second half
where they were pretty dominant. But overall some good signs with specific
players especially Saiz and Pennington I thought. Cooper was solid too and the
goalie looks ok on crosses though agree the playing out from the back looks
worrying at times.
Was Viera injured? That is my biggest worry if Phillips is now considered ahead
of Viera.

Wasn't a bad game and a good goal from Dallas. We will have problems in the
Championship proper if we keep trying the continental short throws and passes
from the keeper, will not be for the faint hearted on a wet night in Derby.

Subject: [LU] Oxford friendly

First comment - this was a pre-season friendly so not too much can be read into
any of it. Add to that the fact that Oxford are a Division below us and the
crowd (13k) whilst healthy for a pre season friendly was half the size and a
tenth of the passion of a League game.
Not sure how much of a hint the starting lineup was compared to that v Bolton
but for all the incoming players (8 now ?) only 2 new outfield players started
plus the keeperWe wentWieldwald, Ayling, Cooper, Pennington, Berardi, O'Kane,
Phillips, Alioski, Hernandez, Roofe, Wood
The first half was a bit of a non event with neither keeper making a save of
note. They showed some nice touches etc as Pep watched from the sidelines
dressed in a fetching all beige outfit.
Our keeper liked giving it short and we kept the ball a lot, often with no
purpose - Jap Stam would approve.O'Kane ran the show with help from ROofe who
seemed determined to do well agianst his old team - this fixture being part of
his transfer deal. So it was no surprise that these two linked up for our goal
, a lovely ball from O'Kane found Roofe who finished with style. Our only other
chance was a great corner by Hernandez which was well met by Cooper but he
headed wide and over when he really should have scored. Cooper was captain for
today and looked composed alongside the impressive Pennington. Not sure if that
means he will be first choice when everyone is fit but it is hard to forget
that he always seems to have a goal costing mistake in him. Alioski was quiet
but what little he did do was enough to get the crowd on their feet and wanting
more.
We expected changes at half time but none came, other than in attitude, we
really stepped up a gear and we came close on a few occasions. Then with an
hour gone we brought on Sacko, Dallas and Saiz and all these 3 played like they
meant it and wanted to break into the team. Saiz especailly looked quality, he
seemed to have time and space, sacko showed blistering pace as he took on the
full back a few times and tried to make an end product, Wood having a tap in
saved, and then Dallas cut inside and curled a brillaint shot into the top
corner.
With 12 minutes or so to go we made more changes with Dallas look-a-like (beard
and all) Klitch coming on with ekuban and Anita. They were not on long enough
to do much but Klitch did some nice forward passing and Ekuban put himself
about a bit.
So a decent end to pre-season - we still have not made the two signings that we
expected and needed from the end of last season - left back and centre half to
replace Taylor and Bartley - and if today is anything to go by most of the new
boys will be squad players rather than starters but who knows and lots of
places are up for grabs.
Roofe, Dallas and Alioski seemed to have had the best pre- seasons plus O'Kane
after today, and Pennington looks assured
Who knows this might, just might, be our season
Dave
