my view as an Englishman who has lived and been brought up in Scotland but never hidden my English roots.Firstly Mark why put anthem in ""? .God save the queen is not the national anthem of England though it is erroneously used as such. God save the Queen is the national anthem of Britain and realistically England should not use it for there sole purpose. Hence the reason at the commonwealth games England cannot use god save the queen. Next you made a comment about Flower of Scotland. have you forgotten this verse of god save the queen? OK not ever sung these days but its still there and the English still happily use this as their Anthem?
6. Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the Queen!Ok That tirade over. I can assure everyone that anti English feeling is not rife in Scotland but portrayed by a mindless minority. I have lived happily in Scotland for 28 years and ok had a bit of banter at school but never any worse than between supporters of any other football clubs. These mindless attacks that have happened recently disgust the vast majority of Scottish People, sadly idiots abide in every country of the world and we can only do what we can just like other countries to deal with them. I can assure any English people thinking of moving here that they will be given a warm welcome by the majority of Scots.Next comment was made about the fact Scots where still sore about something that happened over 200 years ago. I agree let the past be the past. Surely this applies to the Germans as well though?Anyway thats my bit for now.Richard Humphries----- Original Message -----From: Mark HumphriesTo: 'Shawn Concannon' ; 'leedslist'Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 4:30 PMSubject: RE: [LU] non. racist attactsI can't see why that should piss Scots off though.
They constantly go on about the only thing they have ever won, their 'anthem' is even about it, but how many English people complain about its use, never mind find it offensive?

There was in an incident in Edinburgh last night of a father and his young son beaten up after the the game because they were wearing England shirts. I have lived in Scotland 6 years, and I have been spat at while wearing an England shirt, so I simply don't bother any more. For some reason many Scots can't forgive the English for what was done 400 and 500 years ago. The media don't help with the constant ramblings of 1966, yes we won it, but do we really need to be reminded of it every time England play? Even during a game during a world cup game that does not include England the commentators mention it, its boring and unnecessary.
